Ingredients
- 1 (12-ounce) can SPAM® Classic, cut into 6 slices
- 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
- 1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk or heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
- 6 slices dense white bread or oatmeal bread, toasted
- 6 large tomato slices
- 12 slices cooked HORMEL® BLACK LABEL® Bacon or HORMEL® Fully Cooked Bacon
- Black pepper, to taste
- Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
Directions
- For the sauce, melt butter in a large saucepan.
- Add the flour, and heat and stir over medium heat until lightly browned and bubbly, for about 2 minutes.
- Add milk or cream, hot pepper sauce, and Worcestershire sauce; heat and stir over medium heat until sauce is thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in the cheese until melted. Keep warm and set aside.
- For the Hot Browns, preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a large skillet, heat the SPAM® Classic until lightly browned on both sides.
- In an ovenproof baking dish, arrange the toasted bread slices.
- Top with SPAM® Classic and tomato slices.
- Sprinkle black pepper over the tomatoes.
- Spoon prepared cheese sauce over each.
- Place in oven and heat for about 5 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Top each with two slices of bacon and top with fresh chopped parsley. Serves 6.
