SPAM® Island Appetizer

Have you ever had an appetizer so great, that you wished it was the main course? Well, prepare yourself for just that. This app is held together by crescent rolls, filled with cream cheese and pineapple, and finally topped SPAM® Classic rubbed in Jerk Seasoning.

  • For crust:
  • 2 (8-ounce) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • For filling:
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 2/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 (8-ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained well
  • 4 green onion, chopped
  • zest of 1 lime
  • Topping 1
  • 1 bunch green onions, chopped
  • 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
  • (2.25-ounce) can sliced ripe olives
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon each salt, ground cumin and crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • Topping 2:
  • 1 (12-ounce) can SPAM® luncheon meat, finely chopped
  • 2-3 chopped teaspoons Jerk seasoning blend
  • Topping 3
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese


  • 1.Place unrolled crescent roll dough into a 10x15-inch jellyroll pan. 
  • 2.Bake at 400°F for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool. 
  • 3.In bowl, combine filling ingredients; cover and chill until ready to use.
  • 4.In another bowl, combine the ingredients for Topping 1; cover and refrigerate several hours or overnight. 
  • 5.In large skillet, saute SPAM with Jerk seasoning, until crisp and golden brown. 
  • 6.At serving time, top crust with the cream cheese filling, followed by the black bean salsa (Topping 1), sauteed SPAM and the cheese.
  • 7.Cut into squares or triangles and serve.
