Old-Fashioned Pennsylvania Dutch SPAM® and Green Beans

Ingredients

  • 1 12-ounce can SPAM® Hickory Smoked, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 2 32-ounce cans chicken stock or broth
  • 1 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1 lb fresh green beans, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 3 1.41-ounce packages ham-flavored concentrate
  • 5 large red potatoes, cut into cubes
  • 2 teaspoons parsley flakes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

    Heat 5-quart Dutch oven over medium-high heat; sauté SPAM® Hickory Smoked in oil 10 to 15 minutes or just until it starts to crisp and brown around edges. Add onion; sauté 5 minutes longer. Add stock and ham-flavored concentrate; bring to a simmer, stirring frequently. Add potatoes and beans; cover. Simmer 10 to 12 minutes more or until potatoes are tender. Add parsley flakes; mix well.

Just for fun, we wanted to translate this recipe into Dutch but we don’t speak Dutch and we figured you probably don’t either. However, there have been reports that, after eating this, some people have yelled out “Dit is lekkere dingen” which in Dutch means “holy buckets, this is tasty.”
